More retail space was leased than vacated across the Washington, D.C. area in 2025, even as federal government layoffs and broader economic headwinds weighed on activity, according to ConnectCRE citing a Marcus & Millichap report.
ConnectCRE reports the metro saw roughly a 30.0% year-over-year increase in retail transaction activity, slightly outpacing the national rate.
The outlet also quoted Marcus & Millichap’s Brian Hosey, saying Washington-area retail properties have stayed resilient amid labor market pressures.
