Nvidia authorizes record $150 billion share buyback increase
The new approval lifts Nvidia’s total remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion through fiscal 2028.
Nvidia’s board authorized a $150 billion increase to its share repurchase program, raising the company’s total remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion through fiscal 2028, as it continues to benefit from robust demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to LiveMint Markets.
The approval brings Nvidia’s buyback authorization to what the outlet describes as the largest in corporate history, surpassing a prior record set by Apple’s $110 billion authorization announced in 2024.
LiveMint Markets also noted that share buybacks typically reduce the number of outstanding shares, which can affect earnings per share and represent a return of capital to shareholders.
The outlet further cited research commentary emphasizing that authorization to repurchase is not the same as a company being obligated to complete buybacks, and that tech buybacks can be offset by employee share issuance.
