US 10-year Treasury yields jump above 5.2%, rattling global stocks
The US 10-year yield, at over 5.2%, marked its highest level since 2007 and coincided with India’s Nifty 50 sliding below 22,600 to a six-month low.
Rising US Treasury yields above 5.2% have pressured global stock markets, with US 10-year yields surging to their highest level since 2007, according to LiveMint Markets.
LiveMint Markets said the move has spilled over into India, where the Nifty 50 hit a six-month low and slipped below 22,600 on Tuesday, September 29, as higher US yields weighed on risk assets.
The outlet linked the yield rise to foreign investors shifting toward higher-yielding Treasuries, a dynamic that can lead to FII selling pressure in India and add headwinds for Indian equities.
LiveMint Markets attributed the higher US bond yields to elevated crude prices, persistent inflation concerns, and heavy government borrowing, citing Dr. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Service.
