Vitruvian Partners makes strategic investment in ASR re/insurer
The deal, announced June 2, 2026, follows Helios Investment Partners stepping down as ASR’s majority shareholder after backing the company since its 2020 launch.
Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), a developing markets-focused re/insurance group, has secured a new strategic investment from international investment firm Vitruvian Partners, with the transaction first announced on June 2, 2026, Reinsurance News said.
The investment marks Vitruvian succeeding Helios Investment Partners as ASR’s majority shareholder, with Helios having held that position since ASR’s inception in 2020.
ASR said the partnership will support its goal to be a reinsurance platform of choice for developing markets, including adding new specialty lines and solutions, accessing global A-rated capacity, using advanced technology, expanding underwriting at Lloyd’s, and growing geographically beyond Africa and the Middle East.
Reinsurance News also cited ASR CEO Mikir Shah, who said the new lead investor would help the company pursue its ambition to become the go-to reinsurer for developing markets, and thanked Helios for its support.
