EU trade chief to travel to Beijing to review progress with China
The trip, set for Oct. 8 to 9, will assess progress since a June showdown as the EU presses China to agree to voluntary export limits on products including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

SCMP Economy reports that Brussels and Berlin are preparing for a make-or-break October in their relationship with China, with expectations that the next month will shape how the EU responds to Beijing’s trade practices in the years ahead.
The European Commission’s trade chief Maros Sefcovic is scheduled to travel to Beijing on October 8 and 9 for meetings with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, where officials will assess how much progress has been made in rebalancing trade ties since a showdown in June.
According to SCMP Economy, the EU is pushing China to set voluntary export limits on products such as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, after sales of those vehicles rose while Europe’s own automotive fortunes weakened.
