Europe’s energy shock pushes inflation higher across parts of euro area
Spain’s harmonized inflation rate rose to 5.0% in September from 4.6% in August, data cited by OilPrice show.
Europe’s latest energy-driven price shock is feeding into consumer inflation, with rates accelerating across parts of the euro area, OilPrice reports.
In September, inflation was particularly strong in southern Europe, the outlet says, pointing to Spain as an example.
OilPrice reports that Spain’s harmonized inflation rate jumped to 5.0% in September, up from 4.6% in August and reaching its highest level in the period it covers.
With energy costs continuing to pass through to prices, OilPrice notes the situation is leaving the European Central Bank facing a more difficult policy tradeoff.
