FCA opens application window for crypto authorization under 2027 rules

Crypto firms seeking FCA authorization must apply by Feb. 28, 2027, and the FCA expects to rule on applications filed during that window before Oct. 25, 2027.

Cointelegraph reports that the UK Financial Conduct Authority has opened an application window for crypto businesses to seek authorization under a new regulatory regime due to start on Oct. 25, 2027.

The FCA said companies planning to continue operating in the UK should submit applications by Feb. 28, 2027, and that it expects to decide on applications submitted during that period before the regime takes effect.

The framework is intended to broaden the FCA’s oversight beyond existing anti-money laundering and financial promotion requirements, and the FCA says it finalized the related rules in June.

The article notes the finalized rules include requirements covering stablecoin issuance and other crypto topics, including expansion of the FCA’s oversight scope.
