Global nuclear power output hits record high for second straight year
World Nuclear Association data showed nuclear generation at 2,702 TWh and a fleetwide average capacity factor of 83.7% in 2025.
Global nuclear power output reached a record high of 2,702 terawatt-hours, marking the second consecutive year the World Nuclear Association set a new benchmark for nuclear electricity generation.
According to ETF Trends, the nuclear capacity in operation grew to 423 gigawatts-electric across nearly 440 active reactors worldwide in 2025, with three new reactors connected to electricity grids during the period.
The report cited by ETF Trends also said construction began on 11 reactors last year and that operational efficiency stayed strong, with the global fleet posting an average capacity factor of 83.7%.
ETF Trends added that the capacity factor means reactors were outputting their rated power levels about 84% of the year, a level it contrasts with wind and solar capacity factors, which are below 40%.
