Mo Tooker named successor to lead The Hartford as CEO in 2027
The Hartford said Tooker will join the board effective Oct. 1, after serving as president since early 2025.
The Hartford said President A. Morris “Mo” Tooker will succeed Christopher Swift as CEO in March 2027. Swift will transition to executive chair of the board after nearly 13 years as CEO, according to the company via Insurance Journal.
Tooker is set to join The Hartford’s board effective Oct. 1. He has been with the Hartford since 2015, when he joined as chief underwriting officer, and was promoted to president in early 2025.
Insurance Journal reports that prior to joining The Hartford, Tooker served as president of General Reinsurance Corporation. During his tenure at The Hartford, the insurer said he advanced underwriting capabilities, expanded risk appetite, and grew risk-mitigation services to help customers prevent loss and build resilience.
The Hartford also said Tooker fostered collaboration across business units by implementing a holistic go-to-market approach. Swift, who served as CEO and CFO, led a transformation to a more focused and disciplined insurer, including more than tripling net income ROE and driving a more than eightfold increase in s, the report said.
