Hong Kong ends century-old rope-ferry after new pedestrian bridge opens
The rope-ferry, which previously charged 50 cents per trip, was replaced by a new $15 million bridge connecting Lantau and Tai O.
A century-old rope-ferry service in Hong Kong connecting Lantau and Tai O ended on September 29, 1996, after a new pedestrian bridge opened, according to an SCMP Economy archive.
The outlet said the bridge project cost $15 million and replaced the ferry as the only way to cross the 15-metre Tai O creek.
SCMP Economy reported that before the bridge opened, passengers paid 50 cents for each ferry trip.
