Markel names Jonathan Handen head of Trade Credit and Political Risk in the Americas
Handen will lead the portfolio across the US, Canada and Latin America and his appointment takes effect as Arjan van de Wall shifts to part-time until a departure in January 2027.
Markel Insurance, the insurance unit of Markel Group Inc., appointed Jonathan Handen as Head of Trade Credit & Political Risk – Americas for its International operations, the company said.
In the new role, Handen will oversee Markel Insurance’s Trade Credit and Political Risk portfolio across the Americas, with responsibilities that include driving underwriting performance and supporting regional growth initiatives in the US, Canada and Latin America.
Markel said Handen will work within Markel International’s integrated global underwriting platform and partner with brokers and multinational clients to deliver structured, bespoke and multi-jurisdictional solutions for credit and political risk.
The appointment comes alongside the retirement of the current head, Arjan van de Wall, who will move to part-time capacity until he leaves the business in January 2027.
