Netanyahu credits Indian pilot after attack on flydubai flight
The flight dropped roughly 17,000 feet within a minute before an emergency landing, according to Flightradar24 data.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said an Indian pilot of a flydubai flight between Dubai and Tel Aviv helped avert a catastrophe after the pilot was attacked by his co-pilot, which led to a fight for control and an emergency landing on Wednesday, according to the South China Morning Post and an AFP account.
Netanyahu also said the co-pilot had been trying to crash the aircraft and kill all its passengers, while Israel’s foreign ministry called the incident “an attempted terrorist attack” intended to harm Israel’s relationship with one of its key Middle Eastern partners.
Passengers described rushing the cockpit after the plane suddenly plummeted and lost about 17,000 feet of altitude in the span of a minute, citing Flightradar24.
Flydubai said all passengers were safe, with media reports indicating that 166 of 174 passengers were Israeli, and the airline said the reasons for the altercation were unknown.
