Pen Underwriting hires Petra Votzakis as renewable energy underwriter

Pen said the hire is intended to support expansion in construction risks for new anaerobic digestion operations and increase broker choice in the niche market.

Pen Underwriting, a managing general agent (MGA) operating across multiple classes and territories, appointed Petra Votzakis as its Renewable Energy Underwriter, the company said. The appointment is aimed at growing Pen’s renewable energy proposition, including its anaerobic digestion, or AD, specialty.

The firm said the role also supports risk-management led insurance propositions for the waste to energy industry and a push into additional areas of renewable energy. Pen added that it plans to expand into construction risks for new AD operations and increase broker choice in a limited, highly specialized insurance market.

Pen said Votzakis brings two decades of industry experience across broking and underwriting, with the past decade focused on construction, engineering, and renewable energy risks. It also said her most recent role was at Allianz’s Engineering, Construction and Power business as a Renewable Power Underwriter focused on UK onshore risks, including solar, wind, hydro, and anaerobic digestion.
