Poundland talks in advanced bid that could save 11,000 jobs

The company’s current owners, Gordon Brothers, have also hired Alvarez & Marsal to oversee a sale at a reported £30m.

The Guardian Business reports that Poundland management and a buyout team are in advanced talks with the retailer’s financial backers to lead a rescue bid, a plan that could save more than 11,000 jobs.

The outlet says the negotiations involve ex-Asda boss Andy Bond, who previously ran Poundland between 2016 and later moved to Pepco before leaving in 2025.

Poundland’s current management buyout team includes chief executive Barry Williams, and is understood to be negotiating with an unnamed financial backer, while Poundland’s owners Gordon Brothers have been preparing a sale.

According to The Guardian Business, Gordon Brothers hired Alvarez & Marsal last month to oversee the process, with the business described as being offered at a reported £30m.
