ALKEME expands agency network amid slowdown in brokerage deals
Brokerage transaction volume through Aug. 31, 2026 fell 7.4% to 406 deals, with a few large consolidators taking a bigger share.
Agency owners looking to sell are facing a market with deal volume at its lowest in seven years, as a small set of consolidators accounts for more of the buying, according to Insurance Business.
ALKEME Insurance added three more agencies in the third quarter of 2026, with its chief executive describing the added agencies as specialists.
MarshBerry counted 406 announced US brokerage transactions through Aug. 31, 2026, down 7.4% from 436 a year earlier. BroadStreet Partners, Inszone and ALKEME accounted for 30.5% of that total, while the 10 most active buyers were behind 52.2%.
A separate measure from OPTIS Partners put the trailing 12-month total at 646 agency transactions, the lowest rolling count since early 2019. It cited 68 unique buyers in the first half of 2026, including 37 backed by private equity, and said acquirers have become choosier amid elevated borrowing costs and other macro pressures.
