BC First Nation terminates agreements with Spanish Mountain Gold

The First Nation said it ended a 2021 engagement protocol in April 2026 and terminated a 2012 protocol agreement in September 2026.

Xatśūll First Nation of the Cariboo region in central interior British Columbia said it terminated its agreements with Spanish Mountain Gold as the company advanced its namesake project in the region, and Spanish Mountain Gold shares plunged, according to Mining.com.

The First Nation said it had previously entered into agreements with the miner in 2012 and 2021 to support negotiations toward a relationship agreement, but that agreement was never finalized and the project later underwent significant and fundamental changes.

Xatśūll said the prior agreements no longer reflect the proposed mine or provide the framework needed for a collaborative, mutually beneficial relationship, and that there are no other agreements in place with Spanish Mountain Gold.

Mining.com reported that Xatśūll provided formal notice to Spanish Mountain Gold in April 2026 terminating the 2021 engagement protocol, and then provided notice in September 2026 that it was also terminating the 2012 Protocol Agreement.
