Cornell finds highest bitcoin adoption in unstable-currency countries
Cornell’s Bitcoin Adoption Index surveyed 25,880 people globally, and named El Salvador, Venezuela, and Nigeria as leaders by the share who have ever owned bitcoin.
Bitcoin Magazine, citing Cornell University’s Bitcoin Adoption Index, says Cornell surveyed 25,880 people worldwide about bitcoin use. The outlet reports that while many respondents do not understand the underlying technology deeply, the findings suggest bitcoin is being used as a practical alternative when banking rails fail or inflation concerns rise.
According to the report, El Salvador, Venezuela, and Nigeria recorded the highest number of people who have ever owned bitcoin. Bitcoin Magazine adds that Cornell ranked countries by the share of respondents who have ever owned bitcoin.
The outlet also notes Cornell’s view that the top countries are not wealthy financial centers, but instead economies where the national currency has been unstable. The article_text ends after introducing this framing.
