Dollar holds firm near 2025 highs ahead of US payrolls

Tokyo core CPI rose to 2.7%, beating forecasts and boosting Bank of Japan rate hike expectations even as Asia FX slipped.

Asia markets were largely steady on Friday, October 2, as traders looked ahead to US payrolls, according to Forexlive’s Asia-Pacific market coverage.

The US dollar stayed firm and was near its highest level since May 2025, while Asia currencies slipped despite data support.

Japan’s core CPI jumped to 2.7%, beating forecasts and strengthening market expectations for a Bank of Japan rate hike.

Forexlive also noted that gold dipped near $4,140 before recovering, while oil moved little in the session.
