HDFC Bank appoints Anup Bagchi as CEO for three-year term

HDFC Bank said Anup Bagchi, 55, will take over after Sashidhar Jagdishan steps down when his current tenure ends in October 2026.

HDFC Bank is set to name Anup Bagchi as its next chief executive for a three-year term, an appointment that will keep investors focused on the lender on Monday, October 5, according to LiveMint Markets.

Bagchi, 55, will succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan, who decided not to seek reappointment after his second tenure ends in October 2026, the outlet reported.

LiveMint Markets also highlighted that Jagdishan’s departure comes months after Chairman Atanu Chakraborty resigned in March, saying certain practices at the bank did not align with his personal values and ethics.

To illustrate how markets can react to CEO leadership changes, LiveMint Markets noted that when Yes Bank named Ravneet Singh Gill as its next managing director and CEO on January 24, 2019, the stock rallied nearly 9% on the day of the announcement.
