Japan sanctions Russia’s shadow fleet tied to oil exports
The measures restrict services such as insurance, maritime transport, crew employment and dispatch, and repairs for 35 vessels involved in moving Russian crude to China and India.
Japan announced additional sanctions on Russia, aimed at a so-called shadow fleet used to transport sanctioned Russian oil during the invasion of Ukraine, according to SCMP Economy.
The restrictions target the provision of services to 35 vessels, including insurance, maritime transport, crew employment and dispatch, and repairs, with the measures covering cargo ships and tankers.
The sanctioned ships are believed to be used to move Russian crude oil to countries including China and India, where the exports help provide a major revenue source for Moscow.
