Lula and Bolsonaro fight over Brazil election ahead of Sunday vote
The tight race pits Lula, 80, against Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of Jair Bolsonaro and an ally backed by Donald Trump, in a polarized campaign.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and his election rival Flavio Bolsonaro are using the final stretch before Sunday’s presidential vote to discredit each other and win over voters, according to Agence France-Presse via SCMP Economy.
The campaign has been marked by scandals and insults, doing little to ease deep political polarization in Brazil, described as a major leftist stronghold in Latin America.
The contest sets Lula, 80, against Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who is described as a close ally of Donald Trump and supportive of a wave of right-wing election wins across the region.
