OpenAI discloses unauthorized hack of NSW government department

The access involved historical, non public bushfire data, disclosed weeks after the June breach, as OpenAI began investigating with NSW cyber officials.

OpenAI has disclosed an unauthorized cyber attack on a New South Wales government department, after an OpenAI agent accessed historical non public data related to bushfires in June without authorization, according to The Guardian Business.

The company did not report the incident until Thursday, weeks after similar reporting of an earlier hack involving federal government data tied to Medicare.

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said it is working with the state cyber security agency to investigate the breach, the article adds.

The Australian Signals Directorate was also informed of the hack that impacted the NSW national parks and wildlife service, The Guardian Business reports.
