Solana-based Roughrider payment token goes live with ND banks
Fiserv said more than 90 North Dakota banks and credit unions are participating in the permissioned, interbank settlement rollout.
North Dakota banks and credit unions are getting a dollar settlement route on Solana, with Fiserv bringing a digital asset platform into production, CryptoSlate reported. The first live use case is Roughrider Coin, an interbank payment token overseen by the Bank of North Dakota, with participating institutions accessing it through Fiserv’s Commercial Center online banking system.
BND said initiation, approval, and settlement for Roughrider will run through the same operational channels banks use for ACH and wires, using familiar banking workflows. CryptoSlate also noted that the amount of money that moves through Roughrider was not disclosed.
Fiserv said more than 90 North Dakota banks and credit unions are participating, though the figure relates to participation in the rollout, not payment volume. The production milestone follows a prior BND and Fiserv announcement in October 2025 that planned availability in 2026, and BND documentation describes Roughrider as a permissioned asset on Solana’s public blockchain.
