Sompo names Scott Toland head of commercial lines in Continental Europe
Toland, based in Zurich, will oversee Continental Europe underwriting across product lines and manage business development and risk control functions.
Sompo has appointed Scott Toland as Head of Commercial Lines, Insurance, for Continental Europe, the insurer said. Toland is based in Zurich and will report to Ralph Brand, President, Insurance, Continental Europe and Turkey.
In the role, Toland will help define and execute Sompo’s Commercial Lines underwriting strategy across Continental Europe. He will also oversee underwriting activities across the region’s product lines, along with business development functions including distribution and client management, and risk control services.
Sompo said Toland brings more than 25 years of insurance experience, with previous senior roles in the US and Europe. He joins Sompo after nearly seven years at Zurich Insurance, where he most recently served as Chief Underwriting Officer for EMEA.
Before Zurich, Toland spent 11 years at AIG, where he served as Zonal Casualty Executive, according to Reinsurance News. Brand said the appointment is intended to support the continued development of Sompo’s Commercial Lines platform in the region.
