Taiwan’s TAIEX closes at record high, up 65% year to date

The Taiwan Weighted Index (TAIEX) set its record close on Oct. 2, and its prior all-time high was reached on Sept. 22.

Taiwan’s main stock benchmark, the Taiwan Weighted Index (TAIEX), closed at a fresh record high of 48,475.74 on Oct. 2, according to LiveMint Markets. The index is also close to its all-time high of 48,601.53, which it hit on Sept. 22.

TAIEX has climbed 65% year to date, outpacing gains in several other major markets cited by LiveMint Markets, including Korea’s Kospi at 62.5% and Japan’s Nikkei at 32%, and an about 16% rise in the Nasdaq.

LiveMint Markets said the rally is closely tied to heightened interest in AI trade, given both Taiwan and Korea’s role in the global AI and semiconductor supply chain.

Taiwan, the outlet added, is a key manufacturing hub for the AI ecosystem, with exposure that extends beyond semiconductor manufacturing into areas such as servers, networking equipment, memory, and other electronics components.
