Windrise Capital seeks up to $300m for commodity-focused hedge fund

The fund received in-principle approval from Singapore’s Monetary Authority of Singapore and is targeting a launch in the first quarter of 2027.

Hedgeweek reports that Hao Dong, a former commodity portfolio manager at Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, is preparing to launch Windrise Capital, a hedge fund focused on commodities and other global markets.

According to the report, the new fund plans to raise between $200m and $300m, after receiving in-principle approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore earlier this month, with a target launch date in the first quarter of 2027.

The strategy will rely on data covering Chinese mines, metal smelters, factories, and warehouses to track changes in economic activity and guide investment decisions.

While commodities are expected to be central, Dong said Windrise will also trade currencies, bonds, and equities, with up to 30% of the portfolio potentially allocated to Chinese commodity futures.
