Boots owner reportedly nears $9bn sale to Weston family

The reported talks involve Sycamore Partners, which bought Walgreens Boots Alliance for $23.7bn in 2025, and a deal could be completed as soon as next week.

The private equity owner of Boots is reportedly closing in on a deal to sell the pharmacy chain to the Canadian branch of the billionaire Weston family for $9bn, or about £7bn, according to the Guardian Business.

The report says Sycamore Partners, which acquired Walgreens Boots Alliance for $23.7bn in 2025, is in advanced talks with the Westons, with completion potentially as soon as next week, the outlet added.

Boots operates 1,800 stores across the UK and employs about 51,000 people. A deal, if successful, would mark the Weston family’s return to the UK high street after it previously owned Selfridges and later sold the department store chain for £4bn in 2022.

The Westons are described as owning grocery chain Loblaws and pharmacy chain Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada, while the UK branch of the family had previously held Selfridges.
