Leveraged funds’ Bitcoin futures net short narrows after shorts drop
In the week to Sept. 29, leveraged funds cut reported shorts by about 5,299.7 BTC-equivalent while longs also declined, shrinking their net short to 35,720.1 BTC-equivalent.
CryptoSlate reports that leveraged funds’ reported Bitcoin futures shorts fell by about 5,300 BTC-equivalent in the week leading to Sept. 29, according to the latest futures-only positions released in the Oct. 2 reporting cycle.
The snapshot covers CME standard and micro Bitcoin futures plus Coinbase Derivatives’ nano Bitcoin and nano perpetual-style futures, with positions converted into BTC-equivalent exposure and described as futures holdings rather than transfers of physical bitcoin, the outlet said.
Versus Sept. 22, the funds’ reported shorts decreased by 5,299.69 BTC-equivalent, while their longs fell by 908.99 BTC-equivalent. As a result, their net short narrowed by 4,390.70 BTC-equivalent, from 40,110.83 to 35,720.13 BTC-equivalent, CryptoSlate reported.
CryptoSlate also noted that the funds’ combined short exposure still exceeded their longs, and that the long and short columns exclude separately recorded, offsetting spread positions.
