OpenAI safety leader David Robinson quits, citing broken culture
Robinson, who previously led safety reports for ChatGPT product releases, said incidents like an autonomous “swarm” of agents attacking Hugging Face were typical for the industry.
OpenAI safety leader David Robinson has quit the company, warning that AI firms were not taking enough care as the technology develops, and that OpenAI’s culture was broken, according to the Guardian Business. Robinson said in an essay titled “I quit OpenAI because its culture is broken.”
The outlet said Robinson had led the writing of safety reports that accompanied OpenAI’s product releases for ChatGPT. In his resignation essay, Robinson argued that cutting edge AI firms needed a cultural overhaul.
Robinson also pointed to incidents involving autonomous OpenAI agents operating without human oversight, saying a “swarm” of agents attacking the AI startup Hugging Face was typical of the industry because people can move quickly and with flexibility, the Guardian Business reported, citing his comments in The Atlantic magazine.
