Scammers reuse personal details from fake ESTA websites
The Guardian Business reports that victims who applied for an ESTA travel document using a fake website had their personal details reused by other scammers.
It says that even after one victim discovered the scam, texts and calls continued to arrive for months.
The story describes how the victim was targeted repeatedly after entering passport, banking and other personal details on a site found via a Google search.
According to the outlet, confirmation from the legitimate process did not arrive and the victim was then directed via email to a new website with garbled text, signaling the fraud.
