SEBI receives around 20,000 comments on closing auction and derivatives rules
SEBI’s consultation paper was released on Sept. 12 and drew far more than the roughly 3,500 comments previously reported by some media outlets.
Securities and Exchange Board of India, SEBI, has received around 20,000 responses to its consultation paper covering the Closing Auction Session, market timings, and settlement methods for derivative contracts, according to the latest data available with the regulator. LiveMint Markets reported that the response count is higher than the over 3,500 comments previously cited by some media outlets.
SEBI said it had received around 20,000 comments by 7 pm on Oct. 3, the deadline for submitting feedback. The regulator shared the figures on X, and the consultation paper had been released on Sept. 12.
The new consultation follows SEBI’s earlier experience with the Closing Auction Session framework, which was introduced for F&O stocks from Aug. 3, 2026. SEBI also said the latest number of responses is more than three times the 6,000 comments it received in 2024 on a consultation paper aimed at curbing excessive trading in the futures and options segment.
In the current consultation, SEBI has invited feedback on seven proposals related to derivatives settlement methods, trading hours, and certain operational aspects, according to LiveMint Markets.
