Trump urges calls to senator number in fight over permanent DST
US President Donald Trump shared online what he described as a Republican senator’s phone number and urged people to call it in an escalating dispute over making daylight saving time permanent, according to Reuters as carried by SCMP Economy.
The dispute centers on Trump-backed legislation to end the twice-yearly practice of changing clocks by one hour.
Trump said most Americans want more afternoon sunlight, while Senator Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, opposes the Sunshine Protection Act.
Cotton has argued that ending the clock changes would leave early risers in darkness during winter, with Trump referencing Cotton in the post and stating that “everybody in Arkansas” is holding up the bill.
