Hong Kong highlighted as cancer research hub at World Cancer Congress

The Union for International Cancer Control held the congress in Hong Kong for the first time last month, and its CEO cited the city’s tobacco controls and smoking-rate reductions as a model.

Hong Kong was highlighted as a growing regional hub for cancer research breakthroughs by the CEO of the Union for International Cancer Control, who said the center of intense research is increasingly coming from parts of Asia.

Cary Adams praised Hong Kong’s tobacco control efforts, pointing to the city’s progress in reducing its smoking rate and saying it could offer an example for others to follow.

Adams made the remarks on the sidelines of the World Cancer Congress, which was held in Hong Kong in late September, the first time the event took place there.

The South China Morning Post reports that Adams said the congress underscored Hong Kong’s role in research and breakthrough activity across the region.
