Bajaj Finserv may enter India reinsurance, targeting April 2027 launch

The proposed venture would line up with the domestic reinsurance treaty renewal cycle, and former GIC Re chairman N Ramaswamy Narayanan is reportedly expected to lead it.

Reports indicate that Bajaj Finserv is preparing to enter the reinsurance business, with a potential application planned for India’s insurance regulator, IRDAI, according to Reinsurance News.

The reports add that Bajaj Finserv aims to launch reinsurance by April 2027, timing the effort to the renewal cycle for domestic reinsurance treaties.

Reinsurance News also reports that N Ramaswamy Narayanan, formerly chairman and managing director of GIC Re until his retirement in September 2025, is expected to join the Bajaj Group company and lead the initiative.

Bajaj Finserv, headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, currently operates in life and general insurance through Bajaj Life Insurance and Bajaj General Insurance, and the reinsurance unit would expand the group’s presence across the insurance value chain, the outlet said.
