FERMA survey shows sharp drop in uninsurable risk fears
In the latest Global Risk Manager Survey, the share of practitioners citing uninsurable risks fell to 37% from 53% over two years, while AI emerged as a top medium term concern.
Fears that certain risks may become uninsurable have eased, according to a Global Risk Manager Survey 2026 by the Federation of European Risk Management Associations, FERMA, and PwC, released at the FERMA Forum in Rotterdam. The survey found the proportion of risk practitioners concerned about uninsurable risks fell from 53% to 37% over two years.
The survey, based on responses from 1,329 risk practitioners across 79 countries, also showed continued pressure in other insurance-related risk areas. While premiums and exclusions remain in place, geopolitical uncertainty ranked as the top near term risk, with cyberattacks and uncertain economic growth following closely.
Looking ahead, AI moved to the center of medium term planning, becoming the number one concern over a two to five year horizon. Insurance Business also reported that AI use was identified as the least adequately managed risk, cited by 46% of respondents, up from 43% in 2024.
