Hong Kong authorities investigate alleged drone use during National Day fireworks

The probe follows viral private footage of a 23-minute Victoria Harbour fireworks display during the “golden week” holiday.

Hong Kong aviation authorities are investigating suspected illegal drone flying over Victoria Harbour during last week’s National Day fireworks display, after privately shot footage of the show went viral online, according to SCMP Economy.

The investigation was sparked by posts from a mainland visitor who shared clips of the 23-minute fireworks on social media over the weekend, after local internet users questioned whether drone filming in a no-fly zone had been authorized.

In the footage, the visitor, who identified himself as Su Fan on RedNote and said he is a professional from Yunnan province, responded to questions about permissions by saying “No need to bother,” the outlet reported.
