Hong Kong unveils four-step AI talent ladder to address entry-level shock
Officials said AI is expected to affect early-career roles like basic coding and first-line customer service, prompting a workforce-focused strategy.
Hong Kong has unveiled a four-step artificial intelligence talent ladder strategy aimed at countering an expected entry-level job shock for graduates, with officials describing AI as a catalyst rather than a threat, according to SCMP Economy.
Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Kevin Choi Kit-ming said the entry-level shock was real because AI has performed well in routine tasks that previously made up many graduates first jobs, including basic coding and first-line customer service.
Speaking at the Global Youth Powerhouse Summit, Choi said Hong Kong is investing in AI at a population scale to enhance overall digital literacy rather than shielding young people from the technology, SCMP Economy reported.
