Hong Kong unveils four-step AI talent ladder to tackle entry-level shock
Officials say AI is already excelling at routine tasks like basic coding and first-line customer service, prompting the government to focus on building digital literacy.
Hong Kong has unveiled a four-step artificial intelligence talent ladder strategy intended to address an expected entry-level job shock while developing future industry leaders, framing AI as a “catalyst, not a threat,” according to SCMP Economy.
Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Kevin Choi Kit-ming said the entry-level shock is real because AI performs well in routine tasks that used to make up new graduates’ first jobs, including basic coding and first-line customer service.
Speaking at the Global Youth Powerhouse Summit for young technology leaders, Choi added that the government is investing in AI at a population scale, aiming to improve digital literacy rather than shielding young people from the technology.
