Jane Street asks SAT to compel SEBI trading and counterparty data
The US hedge fund is challenging SEBI’s July 2025 ex parte interim order that barred it from India’s securities market and ordered it to disgorge ₹4,843 crore.
US hedge fund Jane Street has petitioned India’s Securities Appellate Tribunal to compel the Securities and Exchange Board of India to disclose the trading and counterparty records underpinning SEBI’s market manipulation allegations, LiveMint Markets reports.
At a hearing, Jane Street’s lawyer argued that SEBI should share the trading records used to accuse the firm of manipulating index prices and allegedly profiting from options trading, including details on the counterparty and whether counterpart orders existed at the time Jane Street placed its own orders.
The case centers on SEBI’s July 2025 ex parte interim order, which barred Jane Street from the Indian securities market and directed it to disgorge ₹4,843 crore in alleged unlawful gains.
Jane Street said the records are needed to assess how much of the purchases in the relevant period it made compared with trades attributed to other parties, according to LiveMint Markets.
