Kai Tak Hospital to begin first phase of operations on Monday
The new facility is set to open with 2,400 beds and 37 operating theatres, and will gradually assume services from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Jordan.
Hong Kong’s largest public hospital, Kai Tak Hospital, will begin its first phase of operations on Monday after more than a decade of planning and preparation, according to the South China Morning Post.
The hospital, built on the former airport site in Kai Tak, has a gross floor area of about 500,000 square metres and 2,400 beds, and will gradually take over services from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Jordan.
Kai Tak Hospital includes five buildings and major facilities such as 37 operating theatres, along with a 24 hour accident and emergency department.
The project, which cost more than HK$36 billion to plan and build, will also operate Hong Kong’s largest pharmacy, including an automated dispensing system capable of handling up to 3,200 prescriptions a day.
