Millennium Management hires Jera power trader Matthias Soreau

Soreau is expected to join Millennium's Tokyo team this month, as the firm looks to expand into a broader power trading operation in Japan.

Millennium Management is expanding its presence in Japan's power trading market by bringing in Matthias Soreau, the former head of Japanese power trading at Jera Global Markets, according to Hedgeweek citing Bloomberg.

Soreau is expected to join Millennium's Tokyo operation this month, and his appointment is described as the multi-strategy hedge fund's most significant move yet to expand into Japan's energy markets.

Jera Global Markets confirmed that Soreau has left the company, and before joining JeraGM he led Japanese trading at EDF Trading.

Hedgeweek reports that Millennium is also looking to recruit additional traders for Soreau's new team, signaling an intent to build a wider power trading operation rather than make a standalone senior hire.
