Newfront’s Willis Towers Watson acquisition highlights healthcare complexity

The interview describes problems with confusing high deductible plans and delayed or incorrect broker guidance after a birth.

Insurance Business spoke with John Meister, Executive Vice President at Newfront, about how his early experience with a high deductible health plan shaped his view of the industry.

Meister recounted that after he sought help from his broker when medical bills mounted following the birth of his first child, the response took weeks and included wrong information.

He said that frustration became his motivation as he later joined the brokerage side, and after 12 years he is now an executive at Newfront, which has been acquired by Willis Towers Watson.

The interview also touches on Meister’s focus on AI and what he frames as a major industry problem that, in his view, is not medical in nature.
