Rio Tinto and Founders Factory select five mining startups for accelerator
The program selected startups from more than 500 applications and says two-thirds of prior cohorts have trialled or contracted with Rio Tinto.
Rio Tinto and the Founders Factory have selected five mining technology startups for the accelerator program’s fifth cohort, according to Mining.com.
The four-month program was chosen from more than 500 applications and will support ventures spanning copper exploration, geohazard monitoring, and metals processing, as the startups work to build commercial pathways with government partners in Australia, the US, and Canada.
The organizers said the startups receive access to Rio Tinto’s executive leadership and to advanced mining operations in Western Australia, along with pathways to secure pilots and proof-of-concept deployments.
Mining.com also reported that the program’s organizers said two-thirds of startups that participated in prior cohorts have trialled their technologies with Rio Tinto, are conducting trials, or have contracts with the miner.
