Saba founder says activist push has generated over £600m in gains
Weinstein says Saba has invested more than £2bn across up to 50 London-listed companies, and the latest push targets Baillie Gifford US Growth.
Saba Capital founder Boaz Weinstein defended the hedge fund’s activist campaign against UK-listed investment trusts, saying its interventions have produced more than £600m in gains for shareholders, according to a report by The Times.
Weinstein said Saba has invested more than £2bn across as many as 50 London-listed companies, with most positions focused on investment trusts. He also said the firm has expanded into property, building stakes in companies including Workspace and Grainger.
The campaign, launched in late 2024, has targeted trusts trading at persistent discounts to the value of their underlying assets, with Weinstein pushing for changes to boards, investment strategies, and management arrangements.
Weinstein said the latest campaign is targeting Baillie Gifford US Growth, a roughly £1bn investment trust, and that shareholders will vote later this month on proposals to appoint three Saba nominees to its board.
