UK coach operators warn record diesel prices could cut school transport
Diesel on UK forecourts averaged more than £2 per litre last week, with operators citing unsustainable fuel costs and tight margins.
UK coach operators warned that soaring diesel prices could force cuts to services, including school transport, as hauliers warn that fuel costs are pushing hundreds of firms toward closure, according to the Guardian Business.
The average diesel price on UK forecourts hit a fresh record of more than £2 per litre last week, as disruptions from the war in the Middle East continue to affect global fuel supplies, the report said.
Alison Edwards, director of policy at the Confederation of Passenger Transport, said fuel costs have surged this year to unsustainable levels, putting coach operators’ already tight margins under strain.
Edwards urged urgent action, warning that without intervention, rising prices would lead to difficult decisions about whether services remain available, the outlet reported.
