Trump creates task force to oversee US AI policy
The task force will be led by the director of national intelligence and includes officials from the FTC and the Defense Department, alongside AI industry participation.
US President Donald Trump announced a new task force focused on artificial intelligence policy, saying it will be led by the Director of National Intelligence, Jay Clayton. The group is intended to help the US maintain leadership in AI development, while coordinating how the federal government engages the public, according to BBC Business.
Trump said the task force, called the "Super Intelligence Force," will include Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson and an Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Emil Michael. He also said the effort would coordinate government engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and AI companies.
The announcement comes as industry pressure grows for tighter regulation of the technology, BBC Business reported. Trump has previously said he would set up a board to oversee AI safety following a pact he described as "morally binding" signed by leading tech executives.
