UK Green Party votes to define Zionism as racism

The motion passed 1,022 votes to 813 at the party’s annual meeting.

The UK’s left-wing Green Party voted at its annual meeting to define Zionism as racism, a move that drew backlash from British Jewish groups and Israel, according to SCMP Economy citing an Agence France-Presse report.

Members backed the motion by 1,022 votes to 813, with the party stating that Zionism would be treated “as any other form of racism.”

The motion also calls for the establishment of a single democratic Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine.

A Green spokesperson said the vote reflected a “serious and deeply felt” debate within the party’s membership.
