Westwin Elements plans $502M nickel refinery in Natchez, Mississippi
The first project phase targets production of 18,000 tonnes of Class 1 nickel annually, with commissioning expected in 2029.
Westwin Elements said it plans to invest $502 million over five years to build a commercial scale Class 1 nickel refinery at the Belwood Industrial Site in Natchez, Mississippi.
The company completed a bankable feasibility study for the Natchez project and secured a long term lease for the site, building on experience from its 20 tonne per year demonstration plant in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Westwin plans the first phase to produce 18,000 tonnes of Class 1 nickel annually, with commissioning targeted for 2029, according to Mining.com.
The company said binding feedstock and offtake agreements are already in place to support projected production and revenue for the first phase once construction is complete.
