Culver City approves $103 million purchase option for former Sony campus

The decision covers the 198,000-square-foot property at 9050 Washington Blvd, with the Public Finance Authority having until February 2027 to act.

Culver City’s City Council and Public Finance Authority have unanimously approved a $103 million exclusive purchase option agreement for the former Sony Pictures Animation Campus at 9050 Washington Blvd, according to ConnectCRE.

The complex spans 198,000 square feet. The project involves an entity tied to Fortress Investment Group that now holds the option.

Fortress foreclosed on the property’s defaulted mortgage and took possession last month for $71 million, after buying out the approximately $104 million unpaid mortgage note. The property was previously owned by Hackman Capital Partners, which paid $160 million in 2021, per ConnectCRE.

Under the agreement between Culver City and CF CC Investor LLC, the Public Finance Authority has until February 2027 to decide on the purchase option, ConnectCRE reported.
