Discovery Mining gets Mexico permits for Cordero silver project
The approvals include SEMARNAT signoff for Cordero’s environmental impact assessment and change of land use, clearing the project’s federal environmental review.
Discovery Mining said it received two permits from the Mexican government that allow it to advance its Cordero silver project toward development. Mining.com reports the approvals came from Mexico’s environmental department, SEMARNAT, and cover Cordero’s environmental impact assessment and a Change of Land Use permit.
The company said the permits complete the project’s federal environmental approval process. It still needs to finish development planning and financing before construction can begin.
Discovery said it is updating its February 2024 feasibility study to reflect current capital and operating costs. It is also evaluating whether natural gas or grid power should be the main electricity source and working with local water-treatment operators on a facility upgrade.
Mining.com also notes the company framed the federal permits as a major milestone, with an analyst from National Bank Financial saying the project is closer to construction readiness, though it is not yet fully construction ready.
